The 12th Hermanus Wine & Food Fair , nominated as one of the 10 Best Wine Shows in South Africa, will celebrate the wines of some of the more than 70 producers from Elgin to Elim, showcase garagistes and round off the sensational experience with a coffee and brandy tasting lounge and a gourmet food marquee.
The wines of the Overberg region are gathering acclaim and accolades every year and this show is the best opportunity to taste them all under one roof on 8, 9 and 10 August.
The official opening evening, Cocktail for Fynbos, is a gala charity event that is high on the Hermanus social calendar. It will be held in aid of the Hermanus Botanical Society, on Friday 8 August. This evening of live entertainment, delicious supper, unlimited wine tasting, a silent wine auction of fine wines and socializing with the winemakers and chefs of the Overberg, raises funds for the Environmental Education School of the Overstrand.
The importance of the Overberg as a wine producing region is beyond doubt with many of the top wines of the country being made here. More than seventy producers from, Ataraxia to Zoetendal, will present their wines for tasting at the Hermanus Wine and Food Fair and all the wines will be available for purchase at special prices during and after the fair at Wine Village. This is the only Wine and Food Fair in South Africa where you are able to taste wine, buy wine and take it home immediately or have it shipped to your destination of choice.
The Hermanus Wine and Food Fair with a festive ambience, a feast of wines, a food court selling all the delicacies from the regular farmers’ markets and chefs’ kitchens, the popular sushi bar from The Rock Restaurant and olive oil and olives from the area is held at the same time as the Kalfiefees, an Afrikaans cultural festival. Local musicians will perform around the clock to stir the feet and jingle the ears.
The Brandy & Beer Lounge will offer a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee, a Birkenhead beer or a brandy tasting that will be complemented by a wine and beer bar in the Gourmet Marquee.
