Camp in style! The campsite boasts 130 grass sites under giant trees on a lush river bank where a wooden deck juts out over the water. Power points and a convenient ablution block are provided. School groups are welcome – tents with 100 mattresses can be erected near the lapa. A 200 m2 conference venue has outstanding facilities, including a video, projection screen, audio as well as a full-scale industrial kitchen. The verandah with built-in braai overlooks the river. Tables, chairs, freezer, cold storage and a washing up area are also available. There is ample parking space available. The venue provides for wedding receptions and other special occasions. A marquee and bar can be made available for such functions.
The resort is a fisherman’s dream. A variety of species, including carp, bass, eel, springer and barbel are caught. Water skiing is permitted at certain times though quad biking and dogs are only allowed with prior permission. A challenging 4×4 route has been laid out along the river where 4×4 fanatics can test their skill. Guided river rafting trips are also offered.
Swellendam is at the intersection of the R60 with the N2 east of Cape Town, which is at the intersection of the N2 with the N1 and the N7. Travel east from Cape Town. Just after the “20 km to Swellendam” sign, turn left (north) and travel a further 3-km to Kambati.
