Family Day at the Drostdy Museum
May 27, 2017 @ 9:00 am — May 27, 2017 @ 4:00pm
The Friends of the Museum would like to invite you all to an exciting and informative ‘Family Museum Day’ which we will be hosting on the 27th of May 2017 at the DROSTDY MUSEUM in Swellendam.
National Museum day is a celebration of our rich cultural heritage and a day when all sectors of the community are invited to revisit our countries history and to enjoy a fun filled, community spirited family day at the museum.
This year’s Museum Day program runs from 9am until 4pm and will be jam packed with informative talks and workshops, entertainment for young and old, interesting stalls and exhibitions and of course it will be an ideal opportunity to get reacquainted with this important historical icon and community asset.
Because a visit to the museum is usually a family outing undertaken by parents who are motivated by a desire to enlighten, educate and inform their children, we are making sure that there is plenty for them to do; from education to entertainment and will include; tractor rides, pony rides, a treasure hunt, jumping castle, face painting, milk cows, demonstrations and even kiddies yoga classes etc.
Adults will be entertained and challenged by a ‘Heritage and History’ treasure hunt with prizes and vouchers for the first 50 people who successfully complete the challenge, so make sure you are there early enough to win! You will also be able to browse through over 60 stalls filled with interesting things ranging from hand made products, custom made fudges, pancakes and beauty products to demonstrations and workshops that will include; a special photo exhibition by local photographers, Annie Sloane paint techniques, reflexology hand and foot masseuse, accupressure and a ‘fashion through the ages’ exhibition of beautiful historical outfits!
At the ‘Ambagswerf/Tradesyard’ you can experience the concept of a ‘Living Museum’ showcasing a Coppersmith, Cooper and Cobbler at work. There will also be a licensed food courtyard offering food, beer, wine and live entertainment as well as a Spit Braai on offer (tickets booked in advance).
The Friends of the Museum are also collaborating with the all new ‘Cape Trade Market Collective,’ in this event. The Cape Trade Market Collective is an initiative enabling stall holders and market organizers in the Overberg area to connect and co-ordinate their activities. The website www.capetrademarket.com gives stall holders the opportunity to sell their products online and through their partnership with CCDI (Cape Craft and Design Institute), stall holders will be able to access workshops and other marketing opportunities. The Cape Trade Market also offers opportunities for the marketing and promotion of Market events including posters, social media, newsletters and online Whats-On sites. Membership of The Cape Trade Market is free. Please contact Amanda at firstname.lastname@example.org or 028 514 3053.
