The Overstrand municipal area runs along the south western coast of the Cape Overberg. Towns in the Overstrand include: Rooiels, Hangklip, Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay, Kleinmond, Hermanus, Stanford, Gansbaai and Pearly Beach.

Betty's Bay, named after the daughter of a property developer, was originally the site of a whaling station that operated until 1930. Part of the stations jetty as well as the ramp on which carcasses were winched ashore can be seen from Stony Point. Stony Point is home to a colony of Jackass Penguins, one of two shore based breeding colonies in Southern Africa. |

De Kelders lies 3 km west of Gansbaai and truly lives up to this name. Spread out above a rough coastline that varies from rocky beaches to awesome cliffs that flatten out onto the sandy stretches of Die Plaat, De Kelders provides excellent fishing and superb whale watching spots.

The Hangklip-Kleinmond area is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. It is also referred to as "the heart of the fynbos kingdom". 1600 different plant species can be found here of which 150 are endemic.

Kleinmond lies at a small lagoon at the foot of the Palmietberg. It began as a favoured holiday destination for farmers from the Elgin and Caledon districts with luxurious homes, holiday cottages and several camping and caravan sites clustered around Sandown Bay. It is the most developed town in this area and has a good infrastructure providing most conveniences.

Rooiels is situated at the mouth of the Rooiels River. Here people come to dive for crayfish and fish from the rocks, sunbathe in the safe bay or stroll through the small Fynbos reserve. Rooiels is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere - the first Biosphere to be proclaimed as such by UNESCO.

Stanford, a small village at the foot of the Kleinriviersberg, is known for its architecture, birds, flowers and tranquillity. Captain Robert Stanford, a retired British army officer, bought the Kleinrivier farm where he settled.
