Barrydale no longer needs an ostrich feather boom to shake its tail feathers.
All it needs are flowers, pristine nature, art, music, fertile soil, fine food, wine, world-class brandy and an an eclectic mix of people and cultures.
And an annual festival that celebrates it all. A celebration that is blooming wonderful!
October is time for the community to celebrate the spring. Barrydale in Bloom is a celebration of all things Homemade, Handmade and Horticultural.
The townsfolk open their homes, their gardens and their hearts. They showcase the fruits of their labours and their talents to all who make the journey to their village in the mountains.
The Joubert family open their their wine estate, Joubert-Tradauw, for Unplugged 62 and welcome visitors to join them for a weekend of food, wine, live music and country hospitality. There’s an excellent line-up of top-notch local musicians, fabulous food; and camping facilities that’ll keep even glampers happy.
This is the ideal opportunity for you to see that Barrydale, small village though it is, is worthy of more than a day trip or one night stop over.
Take a road trip to Barrydale to see pretty country flowers, breathe in some fresh air, drink fresh mountain pass water or take a dip in a crisp, fresh Overberg river. You’ll feel blooming fantastic!
Don’t leave Barrydale before you’ve done these things.
…and a recipe for Lamb Shank that has been in a Barrydale family for generations.
